This story involves a historical cast of characters from names like Al Capone to lesser known Gatsby-era South Jersey socialite Virginia Ireland, and The course's founder George A. Crump. The lives of which weave together in a strange tale of history, mystery, and golf.
George A. Crump, a Camden County native, purchased the first parcel of land that would eventually become Pine Valley Golf Club on October 30, 1912. From that day on the true story of Pine Valley has been shrouded in mystery. Until now.
To the left is all that is left today of Virginia Ireland's estate overlooking Timber Lake. Mrs. Ireland drove the first car in Clementon, New Jersey, and built an airport on her property. She was a divorced single mother who was the last woman to hold a deed to property in Pine Valley, after selling the land to George A. Crump.
